What twenty UAE business owners told us about AI

In 2026 we sat down with twenty UAE business owners for in-depth conversations about AI: what they want from it, what gets in the way, and what they are afraid of. This is qualitative research, not a statistical survey. Read it as a directional signal on what UAE owners are actually thinking. Every quote below is verbatim and published anonymously with permission.

What did every owner actually want?

Every owner we spoke to framed the prize the same way: getting time back. Not AI, not features, not technology. Time. They talk about hours, weeks, days and what is on their plate. They never say efficiency or productivity. Those are our words, not theirs.

Get a bit more organised and be working less.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER
That would save me weeks.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER
Where it would have taken me five days, I've been able to input it all and write the right questions.

What is actually getting in the way?

Admin and follow-up, raised repeatedly. Not strategy, not tooling. The unglamorous chasing that sits between a job coming in and the money landing is what eats the week. Owners describe wearing multiple hats and being spread thin across all of them.

It's the follow-up that's the problem.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER
It's probably all admin wise. We're all wearing multiple hats.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER
I'm wearing a lot of hats, spreading a bit thin.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER
There should be a way my email automatically remembers and sends a reminding email. Can you imagine? How nice would that be?

Why do people who already use AI stay stuck?

This is the finding that surprised us most. The gap is not technical ability and it is not the tools. Owners already paying for AI are using it as a chat window: no setup, no memory, nothing that sounds like their business. It is an education and setup gap, not a technology gap.

Set up properly, rather than just do it as a chat.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER
Someone could take a look under the hood and say: right, I can see you're doing X, Y and Z, what we could do is this.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER
There is definitely ways that you could do it. I just don't have time to work that out.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER

Where does the information actually live?

A recurring theme: nothing joins up. The business runs across WhatsApp, email, spreadsheets and the owner's own head, and none of it talks to anything else. Finding one detail means searching the phone, the inbox and memory at the same time.

There's absolutely no spreadsheets at all. We always have everything on WhatsApp.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER
Right now my life is such a hot mess. I had to search my phone for ages.

What are owners afraid of?

Two fears came up across the twenty: being left behind, and spending money on the wrong thing. Under both sits a quieter one, which is looking foolish for not already knowing. Several owners described themselves as not technical at all, as if that disqualified them.

It's going to be everywhere soon, I don't want to be completely blind.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER
I'm not technical at all, I'm really scared about it.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER
AI for dummies. I've got nothing, I don't know anything.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER
There's a trust with me and my audience, and I can't break that by using an AI twin.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER

How much change do they actually want?

Far less than vendors assume. The most consistent theme across the twenty was small, specific, boring wins. Nobody asked to be rebuilt. Owners asked for fifteen minutes today, a weekly report in the inbox, one job taken off their plate.

We need to be spoon-fed. I can do fifteen minutes today, I'm absolutely fine doing that.
A UAE BUSINESS OWNER
If I could get a little bot in the background that delivered me a weekly report into my inbox every Monday morning, instead of me going and checking ten different reports.

What does this mean if you run a UAE business?

Start with the admin and the follow-up, not the clever thing. Get what is in your head into a system so the business stops running on memory and WhatsApp search. Ask for one small win first and judge it by hours back. Judge any partner on whether they will show you your own process before selling you anything.

How was this research done?

Twenty in-depth interviews with UAE business owners, conducted through 2026, across a range of sectors and company sizes. Conversations, not a survey. Quotes are verbatim and published anonymously with permission. This is a directional read on what UAE owners are thinking, not a statistically representative sample.
